Community Spotlight
Our Community Spotlight is dedicated space where we share the inspiring stories of the people who breathe life into Trenton’s fertile arts scene every day. Behind every melody is a neighbor contributing to our city's soul.
Asia Brooks-Mendez AKA "Sparkle"
Age 39, Born in Trenton, Jazz and Soul Singer
A constant ray of sunshine, customer service manager extrordinaire Ah-see-a Brooks-Mendez is a regular fixture at Jam Night at Passage Theatre.
Asia grew up here in Trenton, graduated from Ewing High School and has close ties to the Trenton community through her family, especially her mother, her Grandmother Ms. Edythe and soul musician uncles with whom she learned her vocal style and presence.
Asia-- with her agile alto vocal range and soaring falsetto-- can complement bands from funk and soul to pop and punk. A favorite standard is Strange Fruit by Billie Holiday. She does it all at Jam Night! Also a hostess beyond measure, she welcomes everyone with a hug and a smile as we continue to build Jam Night at Passage Theatre into a more inclusive scene. Her engagement helps make this weekly event into a radiant light for the entire city of Trenton.
Join us on Tuesday nights as we celebrate the community through music. We look forward to seeing the local talent shine on and sharing more stories like Asia's that inspire our city's artistic connection.
